An acquaintance of mine shot and killed his soon-to-be-ex-wife. While his children were asleep in the house. Then, he went off and shot and killed himself. I sort of understand the mother-in-law, but still.
I don't have the whole story--motives, and such--but I don't really care. Once you have a child, what you want no longer matters, not in the face of that child's welfare.
I thought I knew the guy. I didn't think he was that stupid and self-centered. I mean, really.
What kind of selfish bastard shoots his kids' mother? What kind of selfish bastard turns his children into orphans?

This is a bit of a tangent, but, selfish is right. When you're focused on yourself, a negative self-image such as a suicidal person may have doesn't make it OK.
ReplyDeleteSaying "I'm horrible compared to others" isn't helpful. Saying "There are so many nice things about others" is.
You make good points.
DeleteSad. If ONLY he had done this in reverse order..
ReplyDeleteand besides - if you just can't live with someone, then just split. There is no reason in the world to do such crap/ Remember that guy a few months ago who was so upset about his divorce that while his kids were having a weekend visit, he killed them with a hatchet, then rigged the house to blow up with a natural gas leak? He COULD have just killed himself, but he killed the kids to 'get back' at his ex. Special places in Hell for such.
I have heard--unsubstantiated, mind you--that she was cheating on him. I still think he was a selfish bastard in how he left his kids orphaned.
Deleteno, no - he killed them FIRST. So they weren't orphans. Just little corpses.
DeleteYeah, that's sick. My friend, though, didn't kill his kids. The kids were unharmed--asleep in another part of the house.
DeleteMy religion believes in "the glamour of evil" or to put it another way, the attraction of a really bad and stupid idea. Many men, (I don't know about women, this doesn't happen to my wife)can get really hooked on a stupid idea to the point that other stupid ideas seem reasonible and valid. Reason walks out, evil steps in.

Usually, women are more prone to what you describe, because women tend to think more emotionally and less rationally. The Bible clearly states something is sinful, that person can't seem to help it, like they were created and born to act that way, and they're so nice and good otherwise, so it must not be evil, and instead of encouraging them to not do what they're inclined to do, we make it easy for them to be sinful. Or, I don't see a way out, so instead of trying, I'll just kill myself. Or, but I want to! It can't be that bad! (Remember Eve with the apple?)
