If they're not being programmed to record only votes for one candidate, they're screwing up because their software needs re-calibrated.
I am so glad that my district still uses paper ballots, and paper ballots that require a pen connecting the line to the candidate for which an individual wants to vote.

We have those too.
ReplyDeleteI've also voted the punchcards (like the infamous hanging-chad ballots) which were a PITA because the type was so small.
The first voting I ever did was on one of those big old-fashioned lever machines, where you flip the little levers for each issue and candidate, and then pull a big lever to register your vote. I liked those machines and admit I kind of miss them. You actually felt you were VOTING, rather than filling out a keno card or something.
though these days, sometimes I feel like my vote IS a gamble.
My first vote was a punch card. I like what we have now a lot better.
Deletethe ONLY way that makes sense is to have the TALLY by computer (touch-screen or bubble-reader) with paper receipt... the receipts should/would be audited.... and if there is some catastrophe - hand recount. All other methods are idiotic, frankly. There should be two sets people monitoring: the people running the computer tally and the people safe-guarding the paper back-ups. Cheating is possible, but much harder to run as a conspiracy, I would guess.
ReplyDeleteI agree. Too bad it's no more likely to be permitted to happen than having to show valid photo ID to vote.
