In a perfect world...

This individual (can't call him a man, and calling him a pussy insults vaginas) would never have faced the test he failed.

Couple of kids decided to commit a home-invasion robbery.  Individual stood in their way and begged them not to go in his house, where his wife and kids were.  The kids shot him in the legs, and left him crying and bleeding on the floor while they chased down his wife and infant daughter to steal his wife's phone, then robbed the house.  The thugs escaped unharmed.

As he was loaded up by paramedics, he was reciting Christ's prayer when he was nailed to the cross: "Father, forgive them, for they know not what they do."

The individual's mother in law called him a hero, but admitted that the thugs were likely to do it again, and were still out there.

I'm gonna cut in here, with a little bit of commentary.

This individual is NOT a hero.  He's a failure.  He's a failure as a man, he's a failure as a citizen, he's a failure as a husband, and he's a failure as a father.

First.  A man does not react as he did.  A man has the means, ability, and willingness to protect himself.  He had none of the above.

A citizen does not rely on others to protect him or her.  And does not permit those committing violent crimes against him or her to walk away to continue perpetrating those crimes.  Any thug trying that at my home--my home where my children are playing and/or sleeping--is getting perforated.  Several times.  I have the tools and mindset to shoot until the threat stops.  I am a citizen.  The individual in question is government- and church-owned livestock.

A husband that is not a failure does not permit the thugs to chase his wife, nor does a father who is not a failure permit said thugs to have access to his children.  This individual succeeded only in incapacitating himself, not in protecting his children or his family.

Forgiveness follows contrition, or else it isn't forgiveness.  It's nothing more than a cloak for cowardice.

This individual is not a hero.  He simply used Christ's words to excuse his own inadequacies.

Long, busy day yesterday

Odysseus and I sent the kids up to spend the day at my mother's, yesterday.  We had things to do that we needed them out from under foot to do.

First thing I did, while Odysseus was taking the kids up to my mother's, was put Advantix II on the dog.  I was expecting it to be more difficult than it was, but the dog is smart enough to realize that the fleas died back after the last time we put that stuff on her, and she just leaned into me and grunted.  She was very still, and a very good dog.

I also stripped the kids' beds and re-washed their bedding, because we didn't manage to get all of the fleas in their rooms.  I also found the source: their stuffed toys.  The imp has a huge collection of critters, and the pixie has critters and cloth-bodied, stuffed baby dolls.

After that was other work--fun work.  We got a new magazine for a small, deep concealment gun, and needed to test that out (and Odysseus wanted some practice with his main carry piece, too).  I found out that a DAO trigger is not good for me.  I ended up, after five seven-round magazines, with the joint where my index finger meets my hand, swollen to the point where I couldn't close my hand, and was incredibly painful.  After that, I wasn't able to write.  Or type.

So.  Good to know.

Hopefully, I'll find something more interesting to write about than my day, later today.

No shit.

"A fear of weapons is a sign of retarded sexual and emotional maturity."--Sigmund Freud

That says a lot about the anti-gun lobby, doesn't it?

Shocking!

No, really!

New York City has had a 30% increase in crime (especially violent crime committed with a firearm) in its public housing projects!

I cannot believe it.  It's completely shocking.  I mean, really--only 30%?

That's a massive sign that their law enforcement is actually somewhat effective.  I would have expected 50%, easy.  Maybe even 100%.

After all, it is New York City--the city that's only a couple of steps behind Chicago in allowing only criminals and the rich and powerful to have armed protection.  We can't have the peons thinking they're the equals of the political classes, after all.  Where do they think they are, America?

OH MY GOD!!!

We've got to confiscate all guns so that women sleeping in hotels won't be randomly attacked!!!

Oh, wait...whups, my bad.

It happened in London, where guns are already banned.  The attacker used a hammer, not a gun.

If someone is going to be violent, it's the person, not the tool, that is the important part of the equation.

So.

We had another spree shooting happen yesterday.  Ft. Hood.  Again.

This time, however, it wasn't terrorism related.  No, this was related to most of the other non-ideologically motivated spree shootings that have happened over the last several years: SSRI drugs and other psychoactives were involved.

The docs need to stop prescribing those meds outside of a residential level of psychiatric care...or outside of a prison.  These drugs are nasty-dangerous, and massively overprescribed for normal people who are going through a rough patch.  They're dangerously addictive, as well as having a tendency to cause the patient to try to kill themselves...or go get a gun and kill a lot of other people.

And, of course, the usual twatwaffles are opening their pie-holes and advocating control of the gun, and not the drugs that are actually what cause the issue.

I am so far beyond disgusted with the American Psychiatric Association, the pharmaceutical companies pushing these dangerous groups of drugs, and the media that I want to spit.

*snerk*

My only quibble is that I can't tell if the trigger guard and trigger are covered or not.  If not...that ain't good.

Personal preferences

That's what everything comes down to, especially in the non-professional shooters' gun world.

My personal preferences are mine, not anyone else's.  I like what I like, and I have solid reasons for what I like.  I don't think my choices are better than anyone else's, and I'm sure that there are those out there who make better choices than I do.

For instance...I love my bolt-action rifles.  Love them to death.  I love loading them one cartridge at a time, love slamming the bolt forward to pick up a round (have to slap the dog shit out of my M44 and my 91/30, but that's part of the experience), love the feel of the rifle snuggled into my shoulder, the feel of the trigger take-up, and the kick of the rifle.  It's almost a ritual, for me, now.  It's calming.  And I need that, because it's one of two things that take the five separate trains of thought in my head (two of which are ADD) and get them all focused on the same thing.  Makes things get quiet.

I know modern semi-auto rifles are just as accurate as (if not more so than) a good bolt-action.  It honestly doesn't matter to me.  I don't have a singe rifle that isn't capable of more than what I can do with it, especially after five years of little to now practice.  My SAR is capable of almost as much accuracy as my husband's AR-15.  I love the rifle, but I don't love it as much as I love my bolt rifles.

I am aware that wheel guns are more reliable, for the most part, than a semi-auto handgun.  I don't care.  Yes, they're pretty, but the angle of the grip, the feel of the gun in my hand, just isn't right.  They're fine guns, but my personal preferences lie with my CZ-82...or my Colt 1903, both of which I'm quite capable with.

I do not like Glocks.  I don't like that the sole safety is a DAO trigger, I don't like the angle of the grip, and I honestly prefer hammer-fired over striker-fired guns (and really like DA/SA...which is part of what explains why I prefer semi-autos over revolvers).

Personal taste.  My guns are not better than yours, any more than yours are better than mine (unless you've spent a shit ton of money, and are a professional).  I like mine.  They're better for me, not better in general.

And I'm pretty sure your guns are the same to you.

Problems and stress relievers

My beloved Odysseus discovered that the scope on my Mauser had shifted in the scope rings.  I'd initially set it at a bit of an angle--I have breast tissue that gets in the way of shouldering it absolutely straight--but he'd noticed that it was even more "wonky" than I'd deliberately set it.

So...I have to go to the range, today.  I'm busting my ass to get the last of my 101 schedule put together so that I can go shoot, guilt free.

All in all, forty rounds of .308, put through a bolt action rifle with a five round internal magazine should be a nice couple of hours of relaxation.

Back to the grind.  I gotta get this done.

Criminal masterminds

42.  Never, ever, rob a gun store.  Period.  And, if you decide that you absolutely must, do not try to rob the store with a baseball bat as your primary weapon.  The guns in the cases may not be loaded, but chances are very good that the guy behind the counter is carrying one that is.

Trayvon's dad is right about one thing.

If the kid had been white, he wouldn't have been skulking about other neighborhoods after dark, wouldn't have been indoctrinated into the thug culture as a racial identity, would have rabbited and kept going instead of jumping a suspected stalker from behind to beat his ass into the pavement.

And Zimmerman would never have been crucified by a media with an agenda, nor tried as a murderer for shooting a kid that was several inches taller, and quite a bit heavier and more fit.

Saturday, July 13, 2013

Well, duh...

Zimmerman has been found not guilty.

And he's not guilty of second degree murder.  Nor of anything other than justifiable homicide and self defense.  Oh, and stupidity.  Let's not forget that.

But he's not guilty of murder.

I've seen people praying for peace and sanity to prevail across the internet.

I disagree.  I'd like to see some of the human roach population exterminate itself in some form or fashion.  I'd prefer for it to be at each other's hands.  I'd really prefer for it to not be at the hands of those whom they would victimize in the name of "justice."  But I do want to see the welfare-draining, illiterate, innumerate, violent, racist, self-segregating segment of the population decrease.  I want to see it decrease a lot

Only then does peace and sanity have a chance of prevailing.  And even then, only if the race-baiting self-proclaimed "Reverends" Jackson and Sharpton meet their Maker (and learn of His disappointment in them) in the chaos.

Not a bad idea, but...

Not that I have any objection to schools teaching gun safety in first grade, but shouldn't parents be teaching their kids to, I don't know, not touch guns?  I started teaching my kids the Eddie Eagle gun safety rules as soon as they were awake long enough.  Repeated them over and over, from the time they were infants.

Want to know something?  Neither kid touches guns when they're on Mom or Dad.  Nor do they touch if they happen to wander into a room when I'm changing clothes (and don't have my gun on at that moment).  If they find one of the airsoft guns, they come get me to put it up.

It wasn't hard.  And they think of our guns as just something else Mommy and Daddy put on in the morning, like their pants.  Y'know...boring.

Criminal masterminds...

41.  Never, ever break into a residence and walk around carrying a hatchet.  The homeowner will think you're there for reasons nefarious and harmful to him, and will shoot your stupid ass.

Thank God for good cops.

This one is one of the best.  Excellent shot, and excellent work, sir.

(It wouldn't have been a cop that shot the son of a bitch, if it had been my child.  It would have been me.)

Sunday, June 30, 2013

Well, what do you know?

Criminals are learning that their intended victims may not be helpless after all, and their own lives depend on being aware of that, and willing to cut and run.  Or drop and wait for the cops

At least, that's the case in Castle Doctrine states...

If Zimmerman gets justice...

I'm so glad I'm in a small town, and a good ways away from racist minorities.  Because I do not want to have to defend my home from rioters.

Criminal masterminds

40.  Never, ever pull a gun and try to rob a crowd in a concealed carry state.  Someone in the crowd will have a CCW, pull a gun, and shoot your stupid ass.

Mind you, I think standing in line to buy $180 shoes isn't such a bright idea, either.

Criminal masterminds

39.  Never, ever take your eyes off of the homeowner while you threaten his wife.  He'll pull a gun out of the nightstand and shoot your stupid ass.
