Odysseus and I have been working with the kids, teaching them to say please and thank you. We set the example for them, ourselves--it's something we've always done.
So, now, when you hand my imp something to eat or drink, he gives a huge grin, and goes "Thanks!" The pixie is starting to do the same.
It's not a hard thing to teach small children. I have no idea why more parents don't try.

That was the best compliment my parents ever received about the girls and I. When they weren't around, we were still the "most polite little girls we've ever seen". Which in part, is pretty sad considering more parents don't try to teach their kids better so it comes as a shock when there are polite kids around.
ReplyDeletePoliteness is underrated by current society, and teaching children to be polite is even more so.
DeleteAnd then people have the gall to be amazed by politeness, and by polite kids.
THANK YOU for doing this. I've seen the results of parents who teach their kids politeness, and parents who don't.
ReplyDeleteAnd I agree that politeness is highly underrated. For me, sometimes the difference between a crap day and an okay day is if someone happens to thank me if I went out of my way for them.
Parents who don't bother need to be horsewhipped until their parenting skills improve. Basic manners NEED to be taught for kids to be able to do ANYTHING. Those who don't teach their kids how to treat others are handicapping them.
