It's like 1935, all over again.

When a man gets a beat-down by partisan thugs for removing signs for a politician he disagrees with from his own property, we're not too far off from young men in brown shirts beating people for not wearing the right flag on their sleeves.

    1. It's not dead yet, Stephen, but it will be if things keep moving in the same direction. And I don't know what we can do to halt the "progress."

  2. Wow. I wonder what the castle doctrine/stand-your-ground laws are like in New Mexico?

I'm guessing that if something like this started up in Texas, the landowner's response to the thugs' showing up would be along the lines of, "Oh. Mr. Smith and Mr. Wesson are ensuring that it is perfectly fine for me to take down these signs. So you had best leave my property...."

We once had to call a local campaign for putting up their signs on university property. We're a state school, so that is a big no-no. I will say the person apologized and came and took them down.

  3. Not that I'm advocating shooting goons unless they threaten your life or that of someone you are protecting, but sometimes, it's good to be able to counter force by showing people you won't back down....

    1. Once they laid hands on his wife and son, he was fully justified in using deadly force against the thugs involved...or, he would have been in Missouri, at least.
