I'm a little frustrated, right now. Actually, it's more than a little frustrated. I'm kinda downright pissed off.
Y'see, I've been trying to get into my online class's website since Friday morning, and it. Just. Hasn't. Worked. I don't think it's my laptop's fault--I haven't had any real problems with blogger, email, or any of the other sites I typically visit.
Nope, it seems to be limited to the distance learning platform.
I suppose it might be a combination of something with my laptop, the service provider, and the platform (or possibly even the university's servers), but whatever it is, I'm ready to issue a FO five days early.
I give up for the night. If it's still FUBARed tomorrow, I think y'all will be in for a profanity-laced rant.
And maybe some brownies or something.

Online learning blows for me, as a doctoral student on my second degree and as a teacher. It's a way to make money for the university, save money for the university and get revenues. MOst of these schools are pressing their instructors to become computer geeks which I am not. I am a teacher and made for the real classroom. Just venting but true. Take it from an insider. It sucks.
ReplyDeleteI'm not entirely in agreement with you...sometimes, students aren't able to get into a real classroom--real life and supporting their families gets in the way.
DeleteBut I do miss my classroom.
I just told one institution to take this distance learning and shove it. How hard is it for most people unless you are 20 something and totally were raised on computers. I mean Gee whiz, life is hard enough without this bullshit. The platforms are slow, they want you to be a typist and type and type discussions and right papers. What happened to class real discussion. Everyone and their grandmother has a camera. the technology is there. Videotape your discussion response when ready. if they want you to post a quote from your readings and the APA bs ok I will do that, but God almighty you have to write a paragraph to go take a crap in this stuff. ONLINE LEARNING, DISTANCE LEARNING E LEARNING IT ALL TRANSLATES TO BULLSHIT AND BUCKS FOR THE UNIVERSITY.
ReplyDeleteSometimes, you're right. However...since my class is a writing class, and being able to write well depends on lots of practice in both reading and writing. I'd considered video lectures, but it caters to the aversion to reading that most students have. So do normal textbooks. Which is why I wrote my own (posted on my class site for free download) that lacks the filler and fluff that makes other textbooks so huge and expensive.
DeleteDistance learning program is way for their one, who can not attend classes with regular basis, so thanks you that you shared a great blog.
DeleteTraditional classes don't work for all. I do what I can.
