Dinner plans...on hold.

I had been planning to do a corned beef brisket in the crock pot today.  Maybe some boiled and buttered potatoes.

Not happening.  Not today.  The damn sink drain is acting up again.  Everything else is fine, except the sink.  And the last time this happened, Odysseus took the drain pipes apart, and ran the drain snake down through it from the floor level without finding the clog.  The plumber ran a longer one--25'--all the way out to the end without finding it.  He said it wasn't acting like a vent problem, but we can't figure out what it is.

I doubt it's something at the sewer end, because everything else drains fine--showers/bathtubs, toilets, washing machine, and bathroom sinks.  Just not the kitchen sink.

So.  No crock pot roast tonight.

Leftover chili isn't bad, though.  I'll probably put mine over the top of a baked potato, with cheese and sour cream.

  1. A snake won't remove the complete clog. It will open a path for water to drain, but it will leave accumulations that will eventually clog the sink again.

Drain cleaners will help. Use the good stuff for tough clogs. The caustics can eventually harm pipes, but they'll dissolve organic matter first and then be flushed away before the damage occurs.

    1. We have. Foaming and not. Do you have a specific recommendation? We've tried Drano (original and foaming).

    2. I've had better luck with crystals on a slow drain. If the first batch doesn't reach the stoppage, the second batch usually does.

  2. Tree roots are sneaky like that too...they'll bend and when the snake is removed continue to clog. I'd dig into the drain and take a hard close look....Jess has a point too, drain cleaner will melt the grease causing the clogs.

    1. It's ONLY the kitchen sink. You'd think it'd be everything, if it were tree roots. It was with the quad-plex apartment Odysseus and I shared for the year between my BA graduation and entering my master's program. The landlord had to rip out the trees that had sprouted between the septic tank and the building, then get someone with a backhoe to grub out the roots.
