Eurgh.

The thing I dislike most about summer inside city limits, on city water is this:

The water out of the tap is almost warm enough to bathe in.

So, when I'm thirsty and run for a quick drink....warm water.

  1. Maybe drinking out of the city water supply isn't a good idea. My kids live in a Northern city and the water has so much nasty stuff in it that the kids drink bottled water although they have to bath and wash clothes and all in city water. The city water has stuff like "female hormones" in it, but they say it is "ok" to drink. :-(

Apparently people flushing their medicine down the toilet doesn't help the problem, which leads to an unpleasant chain of thoughts if you don't suppress them.

    1. Our city water is from a series of wells. The city just next door takes theirs from a river. I don't drink theirs.

    2. City around here just means well, water-tower, fluoridation(let's just agree to disagree), and that it still works during short term power outages.

    3. Get an easy to handle water "jug"--freeze it half full. Keep a cold water container in the frig....fill up the frozen jug as required--perhaps with 4 of your. double up.

I have cold water all day long.....

    4. When I'm running after the kids, a "quick drink" involves running water out of the tap into a small cup on the way past in the kitchen or the bathroom. Not when I've got time to dig something out of the fridge and fill my cup.

  2. OMG, this. So much this. I hate the lukewarm water out of the tap. I try to keep water in the fridge but I don't always have space for the jug.

    1. I've gotten a bit better about keeping ice in the freezer. It helps.

  3. The town in my county has a well. It pumps the water into a settling pond, and then it gets filtered and goes to people's houses. Once a cow fell into the settling pond and drowned. When people started complaining about discoloration the county sent someone out to check the pond and there was the bloated cow, gently swirling around in the water. They put a fence up around it after that.

Actually, I think fluoridation is a good thing. My son had a lot of dental problems and the dentist said it was because he grew up on unfluoridated well water. But he always had fluoridation treatments at his annual checkups, so maybe that wasn't it.

    1. Ours gets pumped into towers...hence the warm drinking water.

Fluoride treatments once or twice a year helps, but doesn't do as much to help as fluoridated drinking water.
