About four months ago, a house two houses down had the tenants evicted. The owners spent the past several months cleaning the place, including ripping out ruined carpet.
About two months ago, we started seeing fallout from this renovation: apparently, the evicted tenants were flat nasty, and when the owners started cleaning the place up, a host of roaches fled in every direction.
Including my next door neighbor's place. And mine.
No worries, I thought--I put out a butt-ton of baits, and figured the population would dwindle and die off.
That...hasn't happened. In fact, it seems as if I have about quadrupled my roach population.
I do not know what to do. I don't want to spray--I have cats and kids. I don't want to set out unsheltered poison for the same reason. Same with bug bombs.
Anybody have any suggestions?

Boric Acid is your friend
ReplyDeleteHad the very same issue years ago when someone moved in below me. tried everything finally got Roach Proof. killed them dead and they never came back. It works for many other of the little intruders and nontoxic to kids and pets
Forgot to add, the active ingredient in Roach Proof is Boric Acid and you can get it at any hardware store.
ReplyDeleteDave stole my thunder. My neighbor in a duplex decided to not keep his place very clean, and we got ants and roaches. Used something with boric acid in it behind the cabinets and under the sink, and they cleared right up.

DeleteI had something similar happen about 10 years ago, only the nasty-ass neighbors were next door, and it wasn't roaches, it was rats and mice.
ReplyDeleteI wound up using poison. I didn't want to, but when a rat walks out from under the kitchen sink (came up the pipe chase) and just LOOKS at you....well. About a month of having the baits out and I didn't hear anything more or see any evidence of them still being there.
I've been told a mixture of powdered sugar and baking soda will do for ants, but I've never tried it. It would be unlikely to be toxic to mammal-type creatures, so there's that.
Well, yeah...baking soda plus stomach acids equal awful gas. And my cats belch and fart. Dear GOD do my cats fart. One of them does it every time she gets startled...and she's easily startled.
