I've got a student writing their evaluation argument paper arguing that Obama has been a good, effective president.
Where's the fucking duct tape? I cannot, will not, grade them on their stupidity and their opinions. But my head may explode in the process of being fair.

LOL
ReplyDeleteBetter you than me.
Your restraint is impressive
I look at this as an opportunity to teach about how all sources are biased.
DeleteThis is why I freaking hate having to do "short papers on issues" in my non-majors class. It's mandated, so I do it, but it hurts my heart to read 20-somethings say stuff like "Fat people should be fired from their jobs to teach them they need to lose weight" or "Everyone should be required to give a DNA sample in order to prevent crime."
ReplyDeleteOnce in a while you get the odd student who actually understands that we have a Bill of Rights....but they often tend to be our non-trads.
My whole class is basically "short papers on issues" that my students choose. It's not fun when I have a class of empty-headed morons.
DeleteI would take you class, but I'd really hate to have you grade my blog...
ReplyDeleteI'm not real strict on the blogs, not the way I am on the papers.
DeleteFrankly, your blog would probably be getting full credit each week--for the 101 class, the requirements are 300 words per post; linking to, summarizing, and responding to a news story; three times a week; and commenting on two posts on classmates' blogs.
