Sounds like they need better background checks at the point of purchase.

I mean, I think the idea of selling off legal-to-own guns seized in crimes to legitimate dealers, perhaps to help with funding, isn't a bad one. So what if two guns used in "high profile crimes" come from that kind of a background? Two guns out of how many? And how did the crazies get ahold of them from legitimate dealers? Did their states just not have the "mentally unstable" question on the forms at the point of purchase?

I do not, in any circumstance, think that the police should be allowed to destroy legal (i.e., semi-auto only, with registration numbers not filed off, etc.), safe, working firearms, just to keep them out of the hands of those who might commit a crime. The vast majority of us won't, and destroying weapons instead of selling them to legitimate dealers keeps them out of the hands of the law-abiding more than it does the criminal.

  1. Do you think any body really knows how many guns there are in America?

MY nephew has my Dad's small arsenal and my Dad had not bought a new gun in 50 or so years before he died.

    "Gun Control"--impossible!

  2. Oh, it's possible. How many law-abiding do you know would turn over their arsenal if laws were passed against owning them? I'd guess probably about half of the eighty million estimated gun owners. And in states where the only legal gun is one registered with law enforcement, then those states' law enforcement would know where to go to find those not voluntarily turned in.

It's why, if we are called to register our firearms in my home state, I'll only register a couple of .22s, one rifle to hunt with, the cheap 9mm, and a .38 revolver. The rest go into hiding.

  3. The GOV would never know if you registered all of your guns or not!

  4. Precisely. What they don't know about, they can't seize. And those "unregistered, illegal weapons" would not be stored in my home for a "polite search" for any such "forgotten guns" to find.

  5. I guess they could rehire the census taking crews to go back and search all the houses for
    guns!

  6. Any warrant to seize guns will be carried out over their dead bodies. I'd be handing over the ammo first, one bullet at a time, at high velocities.

  7. "Any warrant to seize guns"--

INTERESTING, they would need a warrant to search your house! (Legally anyway!)

  8. I won't let any government employee into my house without one.
