I offended a friend, last night. He took a comment I left on his blog as condescending. Maybe it was, but not toward him or his beliefs. When I quoted Heinlein, I wasn't being arrogant toward him, more toward my own generation that either doesn't read, or reads the drek written by Stephanie Meyers. I was less expressing mockery of his beliefs than expressing amusements that great minds think alike.
It apparently didn't come across that way, and I'm very sorry for that. I dislike trolls, and do not want to become one.
From now on, I'll leave no comments, as he's made it pretty clear that my opinions are unwelcome and unneccessary.
For what it's worth, I'm sorry.

ReplyDeletecorrected for spelling and grammar ( as best I could )
DeleteSeems like there's been a outbreak of folks being overly sensitive to comments left on their blog.
Some complain about the number of comments left while forgetting the fact that if they want to vent their spleen and not receive comments, all they have to do is turn comments off for that particular post.
Leaving the comments "on" is an understood invitation for people to comment. That sounds like a "DUH" kinda comment, but apparently some don't realize this.
I've occasionally turn them off if I don't want comments and I usually leave dissenting comments up as long as they don't advocate or are suggestive of violence. At that point I usually just delete the entire post.
Seems like it.
DeleteOn a different note...you do realize that I don't grade comments left on my personal blog, right? ;)
just poking fun... :)
DeleteAgree with Matt. I am an "only", so I value the cousins I have and one in particular. He used to be a FB friend, but I let my political leanings show freely on my facebook page - it's mine, right?? Anyway, he is in for the Big "O" is a BIG way - went door-to-door for him in '08, and will again this year I'm sure.
ReplyDeleteAnyway, he let me know one day that I was being "unfriended" (is that even a word???) because he couldn't handle my "political rants" (what, me rant???) Heavy sigh. Honestly, it hurt. I still hear from him a couple times a year . . . . .
This skins Ms. H, thin skins . . . .
I'm really hard to offend. Despite being let know that my comments are apparently unwelcome, I'm not going to stop following or reading the blog.
DeleteI am probably old enough to be your grandfather. I don't know what a troll is used in this context. I had to look up Stephanie Meyers to see who that was. When I deleted my comment I wanted to avoid talking about it. You had to respond to my deletion. I've not experienced that before. It seemed very rude to me. If I misunderstood, my mistake. Could we please move on. the mohave rat
