Found in my sixty-something orange binder Betty Crocker cookbook...

One of the best, easiest chocolate drop cookie recipes I've ever eaten.  These are fluffy, soft, and really tasty--easy to eat way too many, and they go great with milk or coffee.

Betty Crocker Cocoa Drop Cookies

2/3 c butter
1 c sugar
1 egg
½ c cocoa
1/3 c buttermilk
1 t vanilla
1 ¾ c flour
½ t soda
½ t salt
1 c chocolate chips (optional)

Mix thoroughly butter, sugar, egg, cocoa, buttermilk, and vanilla.  Stir in flour, soda, salt.  Cover; chill 1 hour.*

Heat oven to 400 degrees.  Drop by rounded teaspoonfuls 2 inches apart on ungreased baking sheet.  Bake 8-10 minutes** or until almost no imprint remains when touched with finger.

*I omitted this step, and they turned out fine.

**I used a tablespoon sized cookie scoop, and 10 minutes was pretty much perfect.

  1. Ever since you started posting recipes.........

I have my Mom's old Betty Crocker Cookbook---A CLASSIC!

After 50 years of being 'the chef' in the houses that I've lived in, I don't use recipes.....my mind is a recipe book!

  2. Yeah, I'm planning to copy my favorites out of my Betty Crocker cookbook, and give it to one of my aunts that really wants one and can't find one.

As for my head being a recipe book...I'm heading that way. I only started cooking about 10 years ago. My mom and sister used to chase me out of the kitchen because I wasn't "doing it right" or I was "making a mess."
