I said I'd be watching the RNC for the same type of Bill of Rights abuses I saw with the DNC. I found some. That's not what the post title is talking about, though.
The post title is talking about something that I decidedly didn't see at the DNC: violent protests.
Okay, okay. I saw threats at the DNC, but most of those were aimed at Fox News reporter Griff Jenkins. Not terribly surprising, since Fox News is despised by that crowd. The violent protests at the DNC were not aimed at the delegates.
The first story I linked to above referred to reporter harassment by police. If you look at the second two, you'll find that they reference the news service and the reporters involved; however, it appeared that, according to the other two stories, that the reporters were swept up in mass arrests of violent protesters.
Not all of the protesters were violent. Out of an estimated ten thousand anti-war protesters, something like two hundred were violent, referred to by police and media alike as anarchists. Those nutjobs didn't restrain their attacks to Fox News reporters. No, they attacked delegates with pepper spray, noxious chemicals, bottles, trash, and anything else they could get their hands on. One in his eighties was pepper sprayed so badly that he needed medical attention. A limo carrying another was attacked: its back tire punctured by protester with a screwdriver and damage done to a side panel by another protester who hurled a chunk of board.
So, of course law enforcement rounds up the group of violent nutjobs. It seems, from the New York Post story, and the TwinCities.com story, that the reporters arrested were just in the wrong place at the wrong time, and were mistaken for part of the violence.
I'm not convinced of that, however; reporters were silenced at the DNC. I'll keep watch on the developments at the RNC. So far, however, all I've seen is what could be justifiable mistakes.
Update: Lovely. Intended kidnapping on top of assault. What is wrong with these people?
