The Pentagon just announced that they're funding research to create robots that are incapable of committing war crimes. Clearly, they need to read more science fiction. Most speculative fiction that deals with robotics focuses on what can too easily go wrong: the robots determine that their own survival trumps that of their creators; that they can best serve their creators by making them happy, and the only human that doesn't complain is a dead one; or that they're tired of serving an inferior master. The list goes on. And on.
Seriously, the only stories I've read where the robots do not mean harm to the humans that created them are Keith Laumer's Bolo series, or Asimov's Robot short stories.
