I'm so ashamed!

It's been so long since I took a rifle to the range that my AK had dust bunnies on the inside of the scope mount rail and underneath the gas tube!

It still functioned like an AK, and shot easy bulls-eyes from the bench at 25 yards (and I haven't shot it for almost two years, now), but I really need to take it out to go play more often.

I also need to take my Brazillian Mauser that's been re-chambered and re-barreled to .308 to the range again.  I'm sure it needs love, too.  And my Mosin-Nagant carbine that I got for Mother's Day four years ago...

I've been spending my very limited range time making sure my pistol skills don't atrophy.  I miss my rifles.

  1. It's a freaking AK! It'll function with mud in the receiver, and you're worried about dust bunnies?

    1. Before I had kids and started breastfeeding, I kept all of my guns cleaned and oiled. Monthly. Whether I'd shot them or not (and I'd almost always cleaned them more frequently, because we used to go shooting every week).

  2. Tin, Dust bunnies means lack of use, not that it won't work.

I have the same problem with my rifles, I'm struggling with inability to purchase reloading supplies, which makes me less jazzed about going out and burning though 100 or 250 rounds. I need to go pretty soon, new optics to sight in, new magazines to test. Couple of rifles I've not even had a chance to shoot (and that's just sad).

    1. That, and I used to be better at monthly maintenance. I have had pocket fuzzies in my gun barrels (briefly), but never dust bunnies between barrel and gas tube.

  3. Keep up the pistol work too. A stroke reduced me to useless with long guns. I can still snipe a ground squirrel with the .308, IF I have plenty of time and a bench rest.

But the stumps remain very scared when they see me with a Colt 1911. We all just never know what lies right around the next corner so keep up with your practice.

    1. I spent most of my early afternoon shooting my carry piece.

  4. Your rifles, my shotgun. We both need to get practice.

    1. I'm really wanting some quality time with my rifles--especially the larger caliber ones--because it's very, very calming for me. I've got like five different thought-tracks, all going in different directions in my head. There are two things that focus all of those on one thing. Shooting large caliber rifles the one I don't fall asleep after: I just sit and enjoy the sounds of silence.
