Tornado season is off to a start.

I won't say a good start, because a good start is no tornadoes.  And we had two spotted and confirmed right around ten til six, to our west, and to our south.

  1. Don't feel too bad. I passed through Edenton, NC around 6:30 pm Friday evening headed west towards home from a day of fishing. Went between two of the worst thunderstorms I've ever seen. Found out Saturday that they both spawned tornadoes, one of which hit Edenton about half an hour after I passed through. The other spawned at least two tornadoes that touched down within sight of the boat landings I use when I fish near Elizabeth City, NC. Makes me almost feel like I was dancing with death Friday evening!

    1. There were only a couple of people killed, and a half dozen hurt to our south. That's about it, for up here.

  2. I despise the apprehension, when severe storms brew, the rumbles increase, and the wind whips the trees until they're parallel to the ground.

There's always that feeling of helplessness and the wonder if the next moments are the last.

    1. I feel for the people living in hurricane country. "In three more days, I'm gonna lose all my stuff...In two more days..." Severe storms in this area come up quick and pass quick.

    2. I've dealt with two major hurricanes. Both passed within 30 miles of my home.

As strange as it may seem, I was more calm staying through one, than I was running from the other. The preparing to leave, fighting hours of traffic, wondering where you'll end up and the constant fear of being stranded is more stressful than the worst of the wind.

    3. And with a tornado, I get so focused on what needs to be done to keep my kids safe and calm that I don't register anything else until it's long past...and then it seems pointless to react.

  3. Glad you guys are OK. We get some twisters here, but nothing like the plains get.

    1. My benchmark for "bad" was set in 2011. The recent storms haven't been anywhere near that bad.
