Bad bird, bad bird. Whatcha gonna do?

Yesterday, New Jersey cops found out just how good certain breeds of birds can mimic sound.

The story runs that neighbors in Trenton heard a woman crying out "Help me! Help me!" Like any good neighbors would do, they called the police. The police come, no one answers the door, they break in, and find--(drum roll, please) a cockatoo.

Honestly, it was a mistake. I applaud the actions of everyone involved--the neighbors for calling for help, and the cops for attempting to provide it. The actions all around were nothing less than the everyday heroism that keeps me from losing hope in humanity.

The reason I chose to use this category is because the bird has a history of similar pranks. The owner lets the bird watch television, and it learns the sounds it mimics from TV shows. A few years ago, the bird imitated a crying baby long enough that neighbors called Child Protective Services.

As the neighbors and the cops are the heroes in this story, I think the bird's owner is an idiot for what he or she lets the bird watch and learn.
