I think I'm going to faint.

A city beaureaucrat shows common sense: an armed populace makes the criminal element think twice about attempting to victimize their neighbors. If criminals are sure that many people carry guns, but don't know who specifically does, they're not going to chance attacking anyone for fear they'll be shot.

The cop quoted in the story who says that carrying guns "is not a recipe for a less violent community" obviously is too busy having a snit at the implication that the police can't protect the entire city of St. Louis to do anything but parrot the anti-gun propoganda pushed in larger cities.

I call this particular city leader, Alderman Charles Quincy Troupe of St. Louis, a hero.

  1. A hero indeed. And that cop who said carrying guns "is not a recipe for a less violent community" has been proven wrong empirically, time and again.

  2. Indeed. Thankfully, the state I live in has passed concealed carry laws, and is one of the states that has passed laws permitting people to use deadly force in defending themselves without being required to attempt to retreat. I have not yet gotten my CCW license, but it's on the agenda to do before January 20.

  3. My state also has a concealed carry law. Unfortunately, permission is at the discretion of local police chief or sheriff. Which means that, where I live, ain't no point in even asking.

  4. That's the great thing about living in a smaller urban area between the mountain ranges...it's generally a more conservative area that believes in the second amemdment's right to keep *and bear* arms.
