As well as an ability to defend himself and others.Heroditus Huxleyhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/11049569750742829144noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-7529212130092758272.post-17784235566823611512013-08-27T13:10:23.184-05:002013-08-27T13:10:23.184-05:00For ten years, I drove to work 38 miles away over...For ten years, I drove to work 38 miles away over the mountain. Then , on Tuesday and Thursday, I would drive the 38 miles back home, then pick up both my kids, drive the 38 miles back to where I worked, then my kids and I would do a two hour karate class, then drive the 38 miles home again.

It was a hellish schedule but well worth it. You are very wise to get your boy into that training early. It gives kids a strong sense of self confidence, the ability to handle a problem with an aggressor if they have to, and martial arts instills a sense of self discipline and self respect. They meet other kids and make friends you are happy to have them associate with. If he gets kicked out, he gets kicked out. After he's able to read, he's capable of self-study, which is what will suit him best anyway.Heroditus Huxleyhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/11049569750742829144noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-7529212130092758272.post-37263901871715746622013-08-26T19:21:12.790-05:002013-08-26T19:21:12.790-05:00When I was teaching fifth graders, I had a hard ti...When I was teaching fifth graders, I had a hard time with boys who would not or could not stand up for themselves on the playground. When I got the parents in, it usually transpired that there was no father in the family. The mom either didn't give the kid any guidance at all, or she told them to "tell a teacher." This was partially the schools fault, since it had a "no tolerance" policy and suspended both people involved in a fight without any concern as to who started it or what happened. Finally, when one little fat guy was taking too much abuse to survive, I told his dad that the kid was just going to have to wallop hell out of the aggressor, and if he got suspended, so what? The kid did punch out the mini-bully who was tormenting him, but the principal, a woman of some standards, found a way not to punish him for the crime of defending himself. I think she was sick of the little bastard that was doing all the terrorizing of the lame ducks, but her hands were tied by district policy. My brother, on the other hand, told his kid to fight back when he first experienced this, and to hell with whatever the school did. My nephew is a little Viking and was just waiting for the green light. He got suspended but he and my brother just went fishing on the day off.Harry Flashmanhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/05071021900005041592noreply@blogger.com
